The German government has rejected the accusation from the President of Poland Andrzej Duda that it broke its promise to provide Poland with tanks to replace those that Poland sent to Ukraine. This was stated by the official representative of the government of Germany, Steffen Hebestreit, reports Politico.

“The federal government is stunned, I would say,” he said.
Hebestrait said the German government made it clear from the outset that it “must see what can be done.”
“There was a clear request from the Polish side to hand over the most modern Leopard 2A7 battle tanks to Poland, but the problem is that the Bundeswehr itself has only a small number – about 50 – of such tanks,” he said, adding that more tanks are in production stage, “they’re not sitting anywhere in a car park or factory floor, they have to be made.”
Hebestrait said that Warsaw was aware of these circumstances.
- Yesterday Duda declaredthat Poland sent “a very large number” of tanks to Ukraine, but Germany, he said, is unwilling to fulfill the promise to provide Poland with Leopard tanks in return.
