“This step will contribute to the further isolation of Belarus at the international level. The victims of this decision will be the citizens of Belarus, who will be deprived of further opportunities for social and cultural activities,” the German Foreign Ministry stressed.
Germany will continue to work to preserve cultural and social ties with Belarus.
The German Foreign Ministry also reminded that both organizations have been “providing cultural and academic bridges between Germany, Europe and Belarus for several decades.” With their help, whole generations of Belarusian scientists, cultural figures and interested people have established contacts with German colleagues, the statement goes on to say.
“This work has brought Germany and Belarus closer in the public and cultural spheres. The German government will continue to work to preserve this cooperation between the countries,” the Foreign Ministry assured in Berlin.
In addition, the statement emphasizes that Germany and the European Union are on the side of the Belarusian people and support their efforts and strive to respect political rights.
“We once again call on the Belarusian authorities to start a serious and inclusive national dialogue and fulfill the legal demands of the protest movement,” it is further noted.
