JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Executive Director of the Institute for Democracy and Strategic Affairs (Indostrategic) Ahmad Khoirul Umam is of the opinion that the age of the National Awakening Party coalition (PKB) And Gerindra probably won’t last long.
He communicated this in response to a statement by PKB chairman Muhaimin Iskandar who threatened to form a new composition if Prabowo Subianto was not paired with him.
In this case, if Prabowo is paired with Central Java governor Ganjar Pranowo.
“Coalition Gerindra-PKB they almost certainly broke up, due to unrequited love,” Umam said when contacted kompas.comTuesday (11/22/2022).

Umam then explained the reasons why the Gerindra-PKB coalition was almost certain to break up.
He said Muhaimin Iskandar was initially quite reluctant or agreed to be Prabowo’s (cawapres) vice presidential candidate.
Indeed, a nearby man said hello Cak Imin This was encouraged by PKB to become a presidential candidate.
“However, Prabowo and Gerindra themselves don’t seem to believe in Cak Imin’s ability to boost his eligibility to win the 2024 presidential election contest,” he said.
Therefore, Umam continued, even though a coalition declaration had been made, the name cawapres remained vacant.

Furthermore, Umam assesses that Gerindra is playing two legs while still looking for potential cawapres figures who can help make Prabowo as president in 2024.
“There is the name Khofifah included in the list of potential names including the name Puan Maharani who clearly has a real political machine in the POI-P,” Umam said.
On this basis, Umam considered it reasonable that Cak Imin wanted to correct the PKB coalition scheme with Gerindra.
“Because his chances of becoming a vice presidential candidate are dwindling and his position seems to be undervalued by friends in the coalition,” he said.
Umam then revealed that PKB’s chances were if he separated from the Gerindra axis.
According to him, the PKB will instead be free to find a new composition by building a political narrative of moderate Islam on the stage of Indonesian democracy.
“This is because Cak Imin’s union with Prabowo has opened up the debate among Kiai circles, because Prabowo has already been seen by some Nahdliyyinn circles as the party which is partly responsible for the practice of exploiting identity politics in elections from 2014, the 2017 DKI Jakarta regional election and the 2019 election,” Umam said.
Previously, PKB had threatened to form a new composition if Prabowo Subianto cooperated with Ganjar Pranowo during the 2024 presidential election.
“I will do another composition (if Prabowo-Ganjar are a duet),” Muhaimin Iskandar said at the PKB DPP office, Jakarta on Monday.

Even so, Cak Imin did not reveal the composition in question when asked.
Even the DPR vice president is chatty when asked if he will be disappointed if he is not associated with Prabowo. Including, when asked about the possibilities of the PKB leaving the coalition that has been built.
It is known that Gerindra and PKB have officially formed a coalition. However, so far the coalition has not announced who the president-vice president duo will be.
Even so, each party has declared that its overall chairman will become a presidential candidate.
