Last July, Kyriakos Mitsotakis proceeded with the “reshaping” of the general secretaries, in order to manage the blue-collar oppositions as well as the “complaints” about arrogant practices by the general secretaries in the ministries.
A few months later, Ms. Dimitra Lygoura submitted her resignation from the position of General Secretary of Reception of Asylum Seekers, for personal reasons, as stated.
The new General Secretary for Reception of Asylum Applicants is assumed by Lt. General e.a. Dimitrios Glymis, Honorary Director of the GES Business Branch. It is noted that Ms. Ligoura from July 2023 to July 2024, served as Secretary General of Anti-Criminal Policy at the Ministry of Citizen Protection, while the previous July he assumed the position of Secretary General of Reception of Asylum Seekers.
It is reported that the resignation is for “personal reasons”, but it is important that the resignation takes place at a time of further conservatism of the government and immigration, as it fears the leakage of voters to right-wing parties, especially after the resignation of Samara.
Finally, it is recalled that the General Secretariat for the Reception of Asylum Seekers was established in 2020 and reports directly to the Minister of Immigration and Asylum, having as its main responsibilities the drafting and submission of the Action Plan, the supervision of existing services and the development of partnerships for reception actions.
