The Gender Gap in Technical Education and Careers: Statistics and Trends in 2023

The number of young men who opt for a technical education is still significantly greater than the number of women. 609,000 young people under the age of 35 have completed technical training in recent years, of whom approximately 125,000 are women.

Figures from statistics agency CBS also show that relatively more women (57 percent) than men (35 percent) with a completed technical education ultimately choose a job in another sector.

Among men and women who do work in technology, software developer and engineer are the most popular professions.

Women are relatively more likely to have a technical education at higher vocational or university level. As a result, they also work more often in higher technical positions, such as architect or natural scientist. Men are more likely to choose a job as an electrician, car mechanic or carpenter.
