The Gatineau Hospital could become a community hospital

Multiple scenarios were explored and analyzed with the objective of targeting the best approach to serve the population of the region. […] Note that the analysis of existing hospital facilities leads to the clear conclusion that none of them meet the needs set out in the Clinical Plan 2036, insists cISS de l’Outaouais in the final version of its report, of which ICI Ottawa-Gatineau obtained a copy.

An analysis that justifies the flagship electoral promise of the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) in the region. The CAQ was committed to building a new hospital to better meet the health needs of the Outaouais, while promoting staff retention.

In the final version of its Clinical Plan, which details current health needs until 2036, the cISS de l’Outaouais reveals more about the redevelopment that will result from the construction of an affiliated university hospital with nearly 600 beds in the Outaouais.

A $ 1.54 billion project

The Gatineau hospital will be transformed into a community hospital with 100 physical health beds and 148 adult mental health beds. He would still have ambulatory care and day surgery, as well as an emergency reception.

For its part, the new establishment would bring together all the specialties, except mental health, which is however brought together on a single site with access to physical health imaging services.

The concentration of specialists in the same site will allow interdisciplinary work, obtaining the critical mass necessary to optimize the medical organization and thus allow the raising of the level of specialized care. Specialists will be able to admit patients on dedicated units with appropriately trained staff, can we read in the 315-page document of the cISS of the Outaouais.

Of the 600 beds of the new hospital, the plan provides for 173 surgical beds, 348 medical beds, 32 labor-delivery-recovery-post-partum beds, 25 pediatric beds and 22 child psychiatry and adopsychiatry mental health beds, to which s’ will add 16 neonatal beds.

In total, the cISS de l’Outaouais indicates that 241 new beds will be added in the region with the real estate solution it offers.

The total cost of the project is estimated at $ 1.54 billion in construction, or $ 1.42 billion for the new hospital, $ 100 million for the redevelopment of the Gatineau Hospital and $ 25 million for the logistics warehouse. including a regional laundry room.

The degree of redevelopment of the interior of the Gatineau hospital can substantially affect the costs of construction work, warns the cISS of the Outaouais.

In Hull or Aylmer

While the location of the new hospital is still unknown, the cISS de l’Outaouais indicates that it will be probably in the Hull or Aylmer sector.

The opening date of the new hospital is also not specified, however, when it was announced last fall, the Minister of Health and Social Services, Christian Dubé, said he hoped to see him in office before 2030.
