There are many different garden styles available to you when creating a garden. In the second part of our gardening guide, we explain what is important and which gardens get by with more or less attention.
In rubber boots for the tomato harvest. But first it must be determined which of the tomatoes are already ripe: they should be red, round and firm. For little girls and boys, a garden offers the opportunity to learn a lot and also space to play.
What kind of gardens are there and which one is the right one?
Many future garden owners have a certain idea of what their dream garden should look like. However, not all types of gardens are equally suitable for everyone.
Secret oasis or prestige object?
Your future garden paradise should not only correspond to your dreams, but also fit into your everyday life. Do you want an easy-care garden that does not require a lot of effort? Or are you flirting with a kitchen garden that has to be cultivated all year round? Working people in particular should consider how much time they want and can invest in their garden. Many gardeners pursue their own personal strategy when realizing their recreational island. In addition to the right type of garden for the here and now, the upcoming considerations include planning for later phases of life. Are you planning a terrace or a seat in a few years? Are there any elderly people in the house who should be able to cope with the garden? Or will children play a role in the garden in the future? These questions are not only included in the planning, but also help to decide on the future garden paradise.
The garden types and their effort
The ordinary – ornamental gardens for friends of the well-kept green
If you would like to present your garden and value a neat appearance, it is advisable to work with architectural elements. For example, lovingly designed winter gardens and garden pavilions offer a good opportunity to enjoy the garden in bad weather.
Combine wooden with metal elements or set accents with lighting of terrace heels, flower beds or special groups of plants. A small fountain, on the other hand, can create a romantic flair.
When it comes to seating, you can choose unusual colors. Furniture made of plastic is practical and available in many shapes. You should make sure that you plan the accommodation for non-washable upholstery. If you protect the upholstery from rain, you naturally stay attractive longer.
Themed gardens are a real eye-catcher. Good examples of such types of gardens are ancient Greek style gardens or classic English gardens. With a suitable motto, design elements such as statues, sculptures or plants can be found and put together.
When designing the beds, you can play with the design. Rely on unusual plants, such as banana or fig trees, or single-colored blooming plants next to single-colored blooming flowers in the complementary color. Evergreen trees such as cherry laurels and cypresses look good in winter.
The easy-care one – the garden for those who don’t have much time and the lazy
Even if it looks tempting at first glance: Do not create a gravel garden. In many federal states, these rock gardens, which are hostile to insects, are already rightly banned. Practical gardens with large lawns are better tolerated here. If you underlay the beds with garden fleece to prevent weeding, the work involved is minimized. If you plant slow-growing hedge plants, there will be less cutting work involved. Good examples here are crawler or barberry. Flowering trees and shrubs, such as butterfly lilac and copper rock pear, are beautiful to look at, provide shade in summer and are undemanding to their surroundings. When it comes to garden furniture, look out for easy-care and timeless plastic seating areas. Raised beds have the advantage that they are easy to work on due to their height and in most cases have a manageable working area. Sculptures with smooth surfaces, such as polished stone elements, are recommended as weatherproof eye-catchers.
The bee-friendly – blossom dreams in the natural garden
A bee-friendly garden is characterized by a special characteristic: flowers. Nevertheless, it is important to differentiate, because not all flowers are equally attractive for bumblebees and Co. Double flowers make it difficult for insects to get the nutritious nectar. In addition, in an insect-friendly garden, make sure that the flowers bloom throughout the year. So the nutrition of the flying friends is assured. Insect-friendly bloomers are for example:

The play garden – space for parents and children
A garden for everyone! Joint planning is particularly important when there are children in the house. Depending on the age of the children, you should provide enough space to move around. Whether it’s an area for ball games or a climbing tower – parents should be aware that a separate play area can create harmony. Both visually in the garden and in family life. If the offspring has their own territory, the probability is high that parental seating areas and discounts will be spared at least fundamentally. A family garden also offers exciting opportunities to show children how vegetables grow or how good apples you harvest yourself taste like. Having your own bed for the children to look after is a fascinating idea not only for budding botanists. Fast-growing fruits and vegetables such as strawberries or radishes are suitable for children’s beds, but sunflowers are also very popular. In order to make working in the garden more attractive for the little ones, it is worth purchasing or building raised beds in small format.
Comfort for the whole family is provided by a sitting area with a fireplace or barbecue area. A hidden bench under the pear tree will quickly become a popular seat for reading or relaxing. For midsummer days, depending on the age of the children, there are garden pools, which provide cooling when the temperature is high.
The kitchen garden – for self-catering
A kitchen garden does not necessarily have to consist only of vegetable beds. These make up a large part of the area, but the area outside the actual usable area can also be designed in such a way that the useful is combined with the beautiful. Fruit bushes are very useful as a demarcation, as they both separate the kitchen garden part from the rest of the garden and ensure a rich harvest. Currants, gooseberries or blueberry bushes are ideal. Careful planning is helpful for the beds for the vegetables. Because not all varieties get along with each other. When planting, make sure you have the right bed neighbors and plan enough space between the individual bed families. With a successful mixed culture, good neighbors even keep pests away and can improve the yield and the quality of the harvest. For example, garlic prevents some fungi and bacteria from growing. Chamomile, marigolds and marigolds, for example, help the rose plants against roundworms.
If there are gaps in the bed when harvesting early lettuce plants, they can be closed by planting cress or spinach. Make full use of the entire bed, as this will reduce evaporation. That means less work for you with irrigation.
