The Gambir Sector Police Chief Trampled on the Mass to Injure During the Riot Demonstration at the Horse Statue

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Gambir Metro Police Chief Kompol Rango Siregar was injured after being trampled on during a student protest riot around the Horse Statue, Central Jakarta, Friday (20/5/2022) afternoon.

Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Komarudin said the riot was triggered provocation The crowd forced their way through the police security barricades.

Komarudin confirmed that the rioters were not a group of students. As a result of the pushing incident, Rango fell and was trampled by the crowd.

The Gambir Police Chief has been taken to the hospital for treatment and an X-ray is taken at the hospital.

“The Gambir Police Chief is now being rushed to the hospital, there was a shoving and he fell, then the mob stepped on him,” said Komarudin.

Not only Kompol Rango Siregar, in this chaotic action there was one officer who was also a victim. However, Komarudin did not explain in more detail the officer in question.

“Meanwhile, there are only two (victims), including the Gambir Police Chief,” said Komarudin.

As for the chaos, the police have arrested at least 26 people. All of them are not students, but people who really intend to cause chaos.

Komarudin emphasized that initially the protest was peaceful.

However, when the police were on guard, suddenly there was a group of people whose origins were unknown and immediately broke through the ranks.

“So the chronology when the action took place there was a new group that entered the action, they forced themselves to break through the ranks of officers who were securing or separating community activities from those in action,” said Komarudin.
