The gallants of Colombian television who were condemned to oblivion

Just a few decades ago, these actors were the leading men of Colombian television. They had it all, talent, beauty, charisma and fortune that catapulted them into imminent success. They were the dream of women, their faces were the covers of magazines and they had the press at their feet. However, the time of glory is now a thing of the past, these gallants of television were condemned to oblivion by conviction or own decision:

Danilo Santos

He participated in telenovelas such as Ana de Negro, Pasiones Secretas and En cuerpo Ajeno, along with Amparo Grisales, which made him the main heartthrob of Colombia in the late eighties and early nineties. But now everything is a thing of the past, in recent years the actor moved away from television. The last time he returned to the small screen was for a short participation in Sin Senos Sí Hay Paraíso. Such was his fame and the number of women who were offered to him that today he accepts that this detail complicated his love life. For that reason it was difficult for him to have a stable relationship.

Currently the actor leads a quiet life in a house he owns in the town of Santa Fe de Antioquia. Accept that in his glory days he made a lot of money but he was not the wisest with finances. However, you have enough to live well without being a millionaire. At 60 he likes food, although for health he already has several prohibitions. You have become sedentary and the elliptical you have at home would like to use it for more than just hanging clothes.

Luis Mesa

His role in ‘Señora Isabel’ alongside Judy Henríquez launched him to stardom. It was 1993, Luis Mesa was the most sought-after heartthrob on Colombian television. He was not even thirty years old and his future seemed promising as the Colombian public loved him. At the end of the 90s, Fernando Gaitán called him to play Daniel Valencia in a low-budget soap opera without many expectations that the RCN Channel was preparing. It was about ‘Betty La Fea’. His slicked-back hair and his elegance in making life miserable for the protagonist immortalized him as one of the most iconic villains in the country.

In later years the gallant presented ‘Protagonistas de Nuestra Tele’ the successful reality show that in those years broke audience records. They chose him because he represented everything that the participants of the reality wanted to be: a true star on television. But his decline began in 2004. In that year RCN called him to make a stellar appearance as the husband of Carolina Gómez during the first chapter of the novel. Although his character was going to be killed at the beginning of the story, the gossip programs of the time assured that RCN preferred to change him regardless of the fact that there were already some scenes recorded. The reason: the gallant had risen the fumes. From then on, not much was heard from him again. In later years, the remembered gallant left Colombian television and returned to Medellín. The only reason that keeps it current is ‘Betty La Fea’ repeated more than 5 times by Channel RCN.

Mesa is also remembered for being the ‘teacher’ in Francisco, the Mathematician

Andres Juan

Many remember him for his starring role in I love Paquita Gallego, the soap opera of the late nineties that took him to the peak of success. Then he participated in ‘Un Cielo Llamado Azul’ in 2003, becoming the most desired heartthrob on television. However, he left the small screen, we Colombians lost sight of him because Andrés Juan changed his performance by going to travel the world in the company of his wife and 3 children. The exactor built a mobile home and a project called Matraca with which he travels throughout Latin America. They were never heard from again, nor were they motivated to get off television. But recently with the arrival of the pandemic, he was remembered again because he desperately told his drama on social networks. On March 17, 2020, they were taken from the accommodation where they were, in a confinement center with 40 other foreigners, and they were sent to the street. They did not care that they had children, that there was nowhere to go, that the virus was lurking outside.
