The Gabriel Garcia Marquez Library was voted “best public library in the world” last August by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions. This brand new library, inaugurated in May 2022 in a popular area of Barcelona, surprises with its architectural characteristics: 6 floors, a wooden structure, a huge skylight, hammocks, hanging rattan armchairs. The library is free and attracts 1000 visitors per day.
It was the Colombian writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Nobel Prize winner for literature in 1982 who lived in Barcelona, who gave it its name.
