The future Renault Espace could turn into a medium-sized SUV

The Hexagon carmaker launched the Espace in 1984. It was considered one of the first contemporary minivans on the car market.

According to the latest information circulating in the industry, Renault would only keep the Espace name. That’s because the next generation will no longer be a minivan, but a completely new medium-sized SUV. It would also be available in a seven-seater configuration.

According to the French site Auto-Moto, quoted by the Italians from Autoblog, the future Renault SUV will be, in fact, the widened version of the new Austral crossover. The French car would replace the current Koleos model. This means that it will measure at least 470 centimeters in length.

The new range Sport Utility Vehicle from Renault will include the new petrol engine 1.3 TCe, which can also be found on the Dacia Duster. Equipped with 12V mild-hybrid technology, it would be offered in two power variants, 130 and 150 hp.

The 1.2 TCe unit should also be part of the range. The most modest iteration of the three-cylinder unit will deliver 130 hp. The engine will benefit from 48V micro-hybrid technology, E-Tech Hybrid and E-Tech Plus.

As for the name Espace, it could be used for the passenger transport version of Traffic. In addition, it is expected to be produced at the Spanish plant in Palencia instead of the Kadjar crossover.

Renault’s upcoming SUV is set to make its official debut in 2023.
