The future presidential candidates have already collected almost 400 thousand. euros to finance the election campaign

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) informs that less than 3 months before the presidential elections of the Republic, the candidates who registered to participate in them have already received almost 400 thousand euros in total to finance the political campaign.

According to the data provided by the political campaign treasurers, the largest part of this amount is almost 245 thousand. EUR consists of funds transferred by political parties that nominate candidates or support them in the elections.

Almost 145 thousand EUR up to m. February 14 natural persons have donated to prospective candidates. Another 10 thousand persons running for President have allocated EUR 100,000 from their personal funds.

According to the data of February 14, the following registered the largest amount of funds to finance the political campaign of the Presidential elections of the Republic:
Aurelijus Veryga (candidate nominated by the Union of Lithuanian Peasants and Greens) – 202,000 euros;
Ignas Vēgėlė (standing candidate) – almost 71 thousand. euros;
Gitanas Nausėda (standing candidate) – almost 47 thousand. euros;
Giedrimas Jeglinskas (candidate nominated by the Union of Democrats “On behalf of Lithuania”) – almost 36 thousand. euros;
Eduardas Vaitkus (standing candidate) – about 25 thousand. euros;
Dainius Žalimas (candidate nominated by the Freedom Party) – almost 16 thousand. euros;
Valdas Tutkus (standing candidate) – almost 2.7 thousand. euros.

In total up to m. As of February 14, 7 out of 12 political campaign participants have provided the CEC with information on how much money they have already received.

The Labor Party, which nominates Andrii Mazuronis, Ingrida Šimonytė, is nominated by the Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats, Zenonas Andrulėnas, Arūnas Rimkus and Remigijus Žemaitaitis, who are nominating themselves, have not yet submitted any data on the donations received to the CEC.

CEC reminds that political campaign participants or their treasurers must submit data on received donations for political campaign financing and donors to CEC no later than 10 working days from the date of receiving the donation. Within the same period, the CEC must also be informed about the expenses incurred by the political campaign participant or the assumed financial obligations, including the texts of the signed contracts. The CEC must be informed about contracts for the collection of small donations by other means no later than within 3 working days.

If the voter has not declared income, he can transfer an amount of up to 50 euros to donate to one political campaign participant.

It is worth knowing that the amount of all transferred donations is calculated, for example, if two donations of 30 euros are made, the total amount of the donation would already be 60 euros, so before transferring the second donation, the voter should have already declared his income to VMI. If the second donation was still transferred, then the political campaign treasurer would have to return it.

It is very important that voters, who decide to donate more than 50 euros, indicate their personal identification code together with the order. Otherwise, the candidate’s treasurer cannot register the received donation, check whether he can accept it and must return it to the donor, and before he can do so, he transfers it to the state budget. Therefore, the CEC urges the candidates to remind the voters of this important aspect so that the donated amount reaches the candidate successfully. It is also important to mention that each donor must donate personally, funds cannot be transferred on behalf of another person.

In such cases, where the voter has declared income, he can donate larger amounts. It is important that for one political campaign participant he donates no more than 10 average wages (17,990 euros) during the entire political campaign and that the total amount of all donations by the donor does not exceed 10% per year. his declared income. Presidential candidates can allocate twice as much funds to their campaign (up to 35,980 euros).

Donations to legal entities (except for political organizations supporting candidates) are prohibited.

Detailed information about who, when and what amount donated to political campaign participants is published and constantly updated on the website of the CEC.
