Analysts believe Tesla’s fast-charging network could become a $10-20 billion business by 2030.
The Tesla Supercharger fast-charging network was launched in 2012, becoming the first service of its kind to enable electric car owners to drive longer distances. This was done to be able to sell more Tesla cars. Initially, Musk stated that the Supercharger charging network was not planned as a revenue point.
However, practice has proven otherwise, especially in North America, where it is the only fast charging network of this size. As well as the recently concluded collaborations with other electric car manufacturers, Tesla’s position in the charging network segment will be strengthened. These charging points have the potential to become the next fueling stations, meaning additional added value.
Of course, purely conceptually, they will remain places where people can get coffee and snacks, as well as possible other conditions to receive cheaper charging, for example, at supermarkets. It is especially important to emphasize the fact that electric car charging takes longer than refueling, so people will spend more time in these places. It is clear that a large number of electric cars are charged at home, however, these charging stations play an important role in long journeys.
