There are still idle factories in Russia. One of them, which until recently belonged to Toyota, has now been transferred to the management of Almaz-Antey. This company said that it will launch the production of e-Neva electric crossovers here. But this enterprise is designed for significantly larger volumes of production. Moreover, electric cars are still in limited demand in Russia. That is, the former Toyota plant will bring losses to the new owner for a long time to come.
Therefore, it is more likely that the production of other models will soon be launched at this enterprise. One of the possible options is the new ZIL-4331 Buryan 2024 crossover, rendered by an independent designer. Despite the fact that this brand has long gone down in history, the Ministry of Industry and Trade together with NAM can bring it back to the market. Moreover, now they are talking about many Soviet cars, which are likely to be revived soon.
The presented ZIL “Buryan” will focus on the budget segment of the market. That is, this crossover is likely to be inexpensive. The appearance of such a car is a matter of time. In Russia, there is now a demand for cheap crossovers, but not a single manufacturer is yet able to satisfy it. Therefore, it is more likely that one of the domestic companies (most likely, with the direct participation of NAMI) will release a similar car.
The involvement of this institute in the project opens up quite a lot of opportunities. In particular, thanks to NAMI, VAZ engines can be used in the development of the ZIL-4331 Buryan 2024 crossover. This, in turn, will make it possible to create an inexpensive car with a high share of localized production. However, the crossover will be equipped with a 5-speed “mechanics”. It will go on sale no earlier than 2024.
