The Future of Lilas Maternity Ward: Updates on Discussions and Potential Changes

Could the fate of the Lilas maternity ward be known by the end of the year? Discussions on the future of this establishment, an emblematic place in the fight for the rights of women who have been in great financial difficulties for years, are continuing between the staff and the Regional Health Agency (ARS) of Île-de-France. A few days after a support rally, the latest meeting, Wednesday evening, made it possible to detail the content of the health center which could take place in the current maternity premises.

“It appears to everyone that the conditions are met for the emergence, on the site, of a reference center dedicated to women’s health, around a multidisciplinary care project with strong orthogenic, endometriosis, expert consultations (transidentity, early prenatal interview, etc.) but also consultations dedicated to the first 1,000 days, says the ARS. This project can be consistent with the Lilas model and it meets the needs of the territory. »

On the other hand, discussions still stumble over maternity activity itself. “The project aims to organize a sector between the intercommunal hospital center of Montreuil, the reference center dedicated to women’s health in Lilas, a birth center and outpatient health professionals, with a structured organization of activities relating to prenatal consultations, an exchange of practices between professionals to better support physiological deliveries on the Montreuil site and support for early return home, continues the ARS. The participants noted that the organization of such a sector has not yet been completed. The work will continue with the objective of achieving a coherent and sustainable organization. »

According to Corina Pallais, South union delegate, the professionals are demanding the establishment of a physiological sector within the Montreuil maternity ward, with suitable premises. “But we are told that we will have to integrate into the functioning of Montreuil,” laments the staff representative, who assures that the midwives will refuse to be “absorbed” into this large structure.

Interviews with each member of staff must be carried out in the coming weeks, before a new progress update scheduled for December.
