Jakarta –
Minister of Investment Bahlil Lahadalia quipped that the ruling party could only last 10 years after it changed. Bahlil’s sarcasm was also responded to by presidential candidate number 3, Ganjar Pranowo.
According to Bahlil, democracy means that the positions of regional heads, members of the DPR and president can be filled alternately. He said no political party had been in power for more than 10 years since the reform period.
“The PDIP has been in power for almost 10 years now. So be careful, there are changes, I think. If we look at the history of reform, the party was in power for 10 years, then it will change again,” said Bahlil at the Democracy Symposium and Declaration of Peaceful Elections. Indonesian Students, at the National Library, Jakarta, Saturday (23/12/2023).
He said, after the 1998 to 2009 reforms, the party that won the general election (election) always changed, from PDIP, Golkar, then Democrat. The holder of the presidential position continues to change from President Gus Dur, Megawati, to Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono who served two terms or 10 years.
“Democrats only lasted for 10 years, change again, if in the New Order era Golkar was in power for up to 30 years,” he said.
Bahlil said that SBY was replaced by Jokowi and PDIP became the ruling party for two periods. Reflecting on existing history, Bahlil reminded that PDIP’s power could end because it has been in power for 10 years.
“The history of reform is that a party is in power for 10 years, then it will change again. Will the next party also last 10 years? Wallahualam,” he added.
Ganjar’s response
Ganjar Pranowo, who is a PDIP cadre, replied to Bahlil. He said that PDIP was always with the people.
“Yes, if we are always together with the people,” said Ganjar after visiting Notoharjo Market, Surakarta, Central Java, Sunday (24/12/2023).
