The Future of Humanity: A Visually Stunning Exhibition in Riga’s Art Nouveau Environment

The exhibition tells the story of the future of humanity in a scenography created for Riga itself in a visually gorgeous environment of unknown plants and natural elements with references to Riga Art Nouveau architecture.

The story centers around a family of centaurs who inhabit a world characterized by both dramatic and strange natural processes that have radically changed the conditions of life and survival. It looks to the future, includes elements from the past. It illustrates the uncertain present day, where people navigate between biology and technology, ecological catastrophe and the love of the planet, hopelessness and hope.

The exhibition is organized by the Foundation of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Latvia, the producer and co-curator of the exhibition in Latvia is Elīna Vikmane, a member of the board of the foundation.

At the opening event, a fragment from the opus “Carmen Sibyllae” specially recreated for this event by Anna Fischer for four singers and harp was premiered, as well as a performance of the short story “From the lap of the earth” created by the curator, performed by actress Iveta Pole.

The accompanying program of the exhibition includes a series of lectures and discussions by artists, as well as a cultural education lesson for high school students in the “Latvijas Skolas soma” program created in cooperation with the “Viegli” educational initiative of the Imanta Ziedoņas Foundation “Ziedoņas Klase”.

The exhibition will be available free of charge from September 23 to November 19, every day from 12:00 to 19:00, except Mondays, in the exhibition hall of the Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art Foundation, New Hanza Biroji, Mihaila Tāla 1.
