The small retro-looking electric car is not really popular with customers, so no successor is planned for it.
Honda e, which won the Latvian Car of the Year “Design Award” in 2021, will not experience the next generation, reports Auto-Motor-Und-Sport. The car, which was included in Honda’s model range in 2020, may have seemed likeable to many with its cute retro-style shape, but customers were not ready to pay at least 40,000 euros for the only 3.89 m long electric car with a promised range of only 210 km. This is also proven by sales statistics, which show that only 3,142 units have been sold in Germany, Europe’s largest car market, since the introduction of the model, and only 82 this year.
This has not gone unnoticed by the experts of the Honda market research and development center, so the manufacturer’s decision is harsh – no more electric cars in the small car segment.
Instead, Honda will focus on producing electric crossovers, starting with the e:Ny1 compact model, which is already available for order.
This does not mean that the Honda e small car will immediately disappear from the market – it is still in the manufacturer’s offer, so the European buyer currently has two fully electric Honda vehicles available.
The technical characteristics of the Honda e:Ny1 are much more serious – a 150 kW motor for the drive, which allows you to reach 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds, and a 68.8 kWh battery for a range of up to 400 km.
