Gary Bowser, the man sentenced in 2021 to 40 months in prison and a $10 million fine for his role in the Nintendo hacker group Team Xecuter, was recently released from prison. But it is possible that the huge amount of money he now has to pay in compensation could affect his entire future life and livelihood.
In an interview with podcaster Nick Moses, Bowser said he was only able to pay back $175 of the huge compensation, which he paid in monthly installments of $25 from his income from working at the prison library.
If Bowser finds a job at home in Canada, he says his salary will be cut until the debt is paid in full, although under an agreement with Nintendo, only 25%-30% of his salary can be cut at a time. Bowser has previously stated that while Team Xecuter generated “at least tens of millions of dollars in revenue,” he himself received only a fraction of that amount.
Given everything that was said during the interview, as well as his age (53) and the exorbitant amount of debt, it is unlikely that Nintendo will be able to receive an amount close to $ 10 million, unless he wins the lottery.
