Jan took the child to kindergarten in the back of his bicycle. Then at home he got into a pedal car and went to work. These words could start a sci-fi novel from the near future. Or the vision of the world suggested by the Eurobike bicycle fair in Frankfurt could be materialized. In the photo gallery you will find the latest trends – from super sports e-bikes to a beer opener in the shape of a handlebar brake lever.
The organizers of Eurobike make it known that it has long been something more than just an ordinary bicycle fair. He refers to the event, which this year took place in Frankfurt am Main from June 21 to 25, as a “central platform for cycling and future mobility”.
In addition to cyclists and cycling companies, various visionaries, whether from politics, business or mobility, also participate in the fair. “Thanks to Eurobike, the rapidly changing cycling industry has found a platform that sets new standards and key topics in the field of sport, leisure, health and mobility,” state the people behind the fair. In the exhibition halls you can see everything that has something to do with riding a bike. From sports bikes to e-bikes to urban transport solutions.
The popularity of cycling is growing, greatly helped by the pandemic
“The real product of our industry is cycling itself. Its popularity continues to grow,” Kevin Mayne, director of Cycling Industries Europe, said at the fair. “The economic foundations of our industry are in great shape. Governments at all levels – European, national, city and regional – are investing in cycling and mobility, and every year around seven percent of new cyclists are added,” he claims.
“Cyclists who got on their bikes during the pandemic are continuing to ride. As more people return to work, the number of everyday cyclists continues to grow. The increase is not as high as during covid-19, but the market is still developing,” he said Mayne at a press conference at the opening of the fair. According to him, other industries must be a little envious of cycling, even though now a period of correction is coming after several years of stormy growth in demand.
At Eurobike, there were already serious voices that the cycling industry will compete with the automotive industry in some areas and wants to offer consumers, for example, different models of vehicle sharing, rentals and subscriptions. And there is also talk of e-bike manufacturing becoming a major force, attracting investment and creating new jobs.
