– He gets smarter and smarter. It’s scary.
High school student Thomas Saue Hovland talks about artificial intelligence (AI).
He is simply worried about his own future.
And he is not alone in that.
A new survey from Ipsos shows that 43 percent of the population aged 18–29 are concerned about how artificial intelligence will affect society in the future.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has also warned and thinks the development is going too fast.
– I am most afraid that I won’t get a job, says Thomas.

He wants to become an automaton or FU (remotely controlled underwater vehicle) operator.
– Paving the way for new careers
But Morten Goodwin thinks Thomas does not need to worry about work.
He is a professor at the University of Agder and is considered one of the most prominent experts in Norway in the area of artificial intelligence.
Morten Goodwin is professor of KI at the University of Agder. He believes that AI will become even more integrated into our lives in the future. At the same time, he says we must be aware of the negative aspects of AI, such as automating weapon systems and seductive algorithms.

– Artificial intelligence can actually expand human skills and pave the way for new careers, he says.
Continuing student Kine Vikse is not as worried as Thomas.
– I don’t think it will kill us or take over the world or anything like that, she says.

Not just positive
The AI professor points out that we should not be afraid of machines gaining consciousness and dominating the world as in the Terminator films.
Nevertheless, he is clear that KI is not risk-free:
– What really causes concern is who controls these powerful tools, and how they are used.
He says that AI today is used for manipulative purposes; both to sell advertising but also in far more serious cases such as influencing political decisions.
What can AI actually do?
Development has been rapid in recent years. You can get answers to almost everything possible through tenesta ChatGPT.
And if you want to print a picture on your wall, the only limit is your imagination.
Perhaps you really want to frame a frog with a hat sitting on top of a mountain?

And the recommended videos you get on TikTok and YouTube are handpicked by AI.
– Artificial intelligence is already a superhero in the world of technology, it already makes everyday life easier and more exciting by giving us smart assistants, says Professor Goodwin.
– Great results
John Krogstie is professor and director at NTNU Digital. He says artificial intelligence can help solve major societal challenges.
– It has already produced great results, among other things in the natural sciences. There is a problem that we have been struggling with for 30 years, which was solved in a short time, he says.

But if AI is used incorrectly, he says it can be harmful for sustainable development.
– That is why it is important that everyone knows what opportunities and challenges exist with artificial intelligence, says Krogstie.
– If AI comes out in human form, it can be dangerous. Imagine if he clicks. I don’t like him.
Oscar Tom
– We have seen many films where AI ends human life. It will be interesting to see what life will be like in the future.
Carlos Hernandez
– It is scary.
