It’s a fact that the Apple Vision Pro is once again leaving the technology market buzzing. Despite being a device still confined to the USA, it is certain that it will reach all continents, sooner or later. However, as this is the first product in a new line, there are those who are already thinking about what version 2 of the Vision Pro will be like and when it will appear. There are already some ideas.
Is the world ready for spatial computing?
Apple is apparently at least eight months away from a second-generation Vision Pro, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his latest “Power On” newsletter.
He reiterates reports that some of the units of this space computer are being returned. However, some reports indicate that the production of this equipment is still slow and it will take time for the existing version to be extended to more markets.
One of the least positive points of the intense demand that the device received were, on average over the 14 days, the returns. And for this phenomenon Mark Gurman left some of the reasons Why people are returning Vision Pro:
- The device is simply too heavy, too complicated to handle, gives headaches and is uncomfortable.
- The current lack of applications and video content does not justify the price.
- Work features don’t make people more productive than simply using a regular external monitor with a Mac – and they’re difficult to use for long periods of time.
- The screens are too bright, the field of vision is too narrow and the device causes eye fatigue and vision problems.
- The product can make users feel isolated from family and friends. There are no meaningful sharing experiences yet and the Vision Pro cannot be easily passed on to others due to the need for fine tuning.
All of these complaints are fair. However, the vast majority of their owners do not echo these complaints as a valid reason for return. In fact, many of those who returned are youtubers, influencerscurious people who, within the possible return period, wanted to test it, create content and then don’t intend to keep it.
What could add or improve version 2 of Vision Pro?
As for the Vision Pro 2, a second-generation high-end model and spatial computing device that will be cheaper and eventually without some features featured in this current model.
Version two will therefore be able to present these features:
- The ability to show multiple Mac desktop screens when wirelessly connected to a Vision Pro (the first version only supported one desktop view at a time).
- The ability for multiple Vision Pro users in a multi-person FaceTime video call to utilize Personas (the realistic VR version of a user based on a facial scan). The first version will only support one-on-one conversations with Personas.
- Fitness+ and the ability to exercise while using your device with content fitness virtual.
- Lighter, made with other types of materials, as Apple has presented on the iPhone
Of course, when it comes to applications, Apple needs time, programmers need time, because it’s a new environment. However, the company already has more than 1,000 applications fully adapted and ready to be used in spatial computing glasses.
Furthermore, when it comes to brightness adjustments and the quality of some graphics, the hardware that Apple has installed allows further development of the visionOS operating system, which, as we have seen, allows corrections to improve what a new world of feedback arrives at the Cupertino company.
Finally, we cannot forget that competition is increasingly attentive and has an open path. There are rumors of Samsung’s work in this segment, of Huawei, as well as Meta continues to put pressure on the market with the Quest generation. Others will also appear.
