You could count the range of Italian Alfa Romeo models on the fingers of one hand in recent years. However, an offensive is being prepared under the wings of Stellantis concern, which will bring several tactics. In addition to those already released (small SUV Tonal and cross towns Young) is preparing new generations of existing pieces – the Stelvia SUV and, above all, the character sedan Giulia.
Living in today’s age, which does not like these traditional groups too much, deserves a lot of praise. But Alfa CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato seems to be taking the new Giulia (and especially its sporty QV version) as his own child. Two years before the first official release, he speaks only about superlatives.
The next Giulia will sit on the STLA Large platform. On this technical basis, it is said that sports cars will be able to accelerate to 100 km / h in about two seconds. The architecture is specifically for electric cars, the Giulia is going to get an electric version with a power of around 1,000 horsepower and a 118kWh battery that guarantees a range of more than 800 kilometers. And thanks to the 800V architecture, you can charge it from 20 to 80% in 18 minutes.
But now it gets interesting. The platform still allows the introduction of internal combustion engines. Maybe a sibling Dodge Charger Daytona, the first to receive this technical base, it can also use a six-cylinder engine as well as an electric car. And he did not eliminate his presence under the hood of Giulia Iparato, on the contrary, it tends to be the opposite. But everything will depend on the statutory regulations regarding the Euro 7 standard.
Imparato also hinted that the Giulia won’t be another high-end car in the mold of SUVs and crossovers. It promises a low center of gravity and a silhouette somewhere halfway between a sedan and a station wagon. He doesn’t even want to hear anything about unnecessary modern technologies. “Our customers don’t want a metre-wide infotainment screen or 200 digital support systems in their car. They don’t need to know the weather from three weeks ago. All they want is fun behind the wheel.”
And this is exactly what Giulia has to offer in the new generation. Not only in combustion, but also in the electric version. Alfa management says that in the case of an electric car, they are not concerned about the exhaust sound of the combustion engine, but the engineers can imagine that you would feel some kind of vibration in the car as part of the feedback, or even shift individual gears regularly.
Even before the Giulia, the new generation SUV Stelvio will be presented next year. In 2027, we should expect an even bigger electric SUV that wants to compete with the Porsche Cayenne. The charismatic Italian brand continues to consider a family MPV for the Chinese market, and is not opposed to the return of the iconic spider. However, the right time for such “projectors” will come when at least five mainstream and well-selling models are available.
