The future Kogi cafe ignites TikTok

This is the story of a new café that will open a “little couple from Quebec who are really into travels and road trips”. The two partners chose 18th Street, in Limoilou, to install the Kogi.

This is a first business project for Francis Carreiro and Camille Chamberland. During his studies in financial management and accounting at Cégep Limoilou, Francis walked past the premises formerly occupied by iX for Bistro every day, he says. During the fall, he and Camille took steps to see if he could accept their project. It all came together.

Francis had traveled across South America when the pandemic forced him to return. Colombia and its coffee inspired him. Afterwards, he and Camille hit the road again, this time in Quebec and Canada. It was during this trip that the project took shape. The name Kogi, which they chose, is that of an Amerindian people of Colombia.

The Kogi quickly gained attention on TikTok in less than a week. You can follow the entrepreneurial journey of the tandem. In one of the clips, they go in search of their “dream decor” at Ikea, the “kingdom of basics”.

In another clip, Francis unearths a panini oven in Saint-Étienne-de-Lauzon, thanks to which he will serve “the best sandwiches in Limoilou”.

“Francis took care of all the equipment, Marketplace is his friend! “Launches Camille in a telephone interview. More seriously, Francis Carreiro says he found several pieces of equipment in local businesses that are of great help to start-ups. “We got really good advice and help! »

What will be served at Kogi besides coffee and paninis? Camille hesitates. “Actually… we want to keep it a little more secret! “The two acolytes will take into account the potential customers around, adds Francis. He thinks of health workers, young professionals, residents of the neighborhood, who will come as much for a drink or a 5 à 7 as for a coffee.

We will have the opportunity to learn more about the Kogiby following his TikTok account. At the time of publishing this article, on the evening of January 24, it had reached 20,600 subscribers. As Francis says in one of the clips:

“If all goes well, the cafe should open in March. »

We can also find Kogi cafe on Instagram.

Remember that after seven years at 1104, 18e Rue, iX for Bistro had tried to find a successor for the place, in the fall of 2019.
