The government wants to internationalize the airport of Bora Bora, until then accessible only from Tahiti, to accommodate private jets and therefore promote very high-end tourism.
The Minister of Housing, in charge of inter-island transport, Jean-Christophe Bouissou, spoke at a press conference held on Monday, September 13 at the Presidency on the preliminary study of the implementation plan of a international airport in Bora Bora.
This is the 3 billion franc project that will expand the airport at the Pearl of the Pacific. The track will be extended by 80 meters but also widened.
The current runway, 1,505 meters long and endowed with a width of 22 meters would be extended to be increased to 2,080 meters in length and 30 meters in width and could accommodate aircraft of the Falcon 7X or Gulfstream G650 type at full load. thus making it possible to connect Bora Bora directly to international destinations in the United States (Los Angeles) or in other countries. The aircraft taxiway width will be increased to 15 meters wide.
The goal is to accommodate the private jets of billionaires.
“The future international airport of Bora Bora will be designed to accommodate very high-end tourism since this clientele has considerable means”
