The Peugeot 308 in both hatchback and SW versions could offer a purely electric drive next year, which will be complemented by internal combustion engines and a plug-in hybrid.

Last year, Peugeot’s product manager, Jerome Micheron, was to confirm the brand’s plan to expand the 308 family with a purely electric version. But colleagues from the British Autocar now bring more details of what a purely electric Peugeot e-308 might look like, or what it might have under the hood.
The first interesting thing could be the platform. It was originally expected that the EMP2 platform used under the hood of the Peugeot 308, DS4, Opel Astra and other models should only be used for internal combustion vehicles and plug-in hybrids. But Stellantis also uses this platform for purely electric compact deliveries. Probably the Peugeot e-308 could thus stand on this platform.

At the same time, design changes should be absolutely minimal and should probably follow the 208/2008 models and their purely electrical alternatives e-208 / e-2008. However, the larger e-308 should offer even better range and performance thanks to the more modern powertrain.
Under the hood, an electric motor of approx. 115 kW (approx. 156 kW) with a maximum torque of 270 Nm is expected, driving the front wheels. Under the floor of the car should be a 54kWh battery with a usable capacity of 50 kWh, 400V architecture and support for charging up to 100 kW. The battery should use NMC811 chemistry, the car’s consumption should be around 12.4 kWh / 100 km and the range could be about 402 km, Autocar estimates.
Despite the heavier batteries, the weight of the car should be slightly above the level of the plug-in hybrid, about 1,600 kilograms, which is also helped by the absence of an internal combustion engine, transmission, etc. roughly at the plug-in hybrid level.

The car should then share the technology with the upcoming fully electric Opel Astra-e model, which is expected to be introduced in 2023. At the same time, Autocar colleagues expect production of the Peugeot e-308 to begin around July next year. The first pieces could then be delivered shortly afterwards.
The carmaker then expects that the purely electric version will have a relatively high share in sales of the 308. After all, the plug-in hybrid should already account for about 20 percent of sales.
