For the official season opening with the fans, the green-whites didn’t just play a test match, but really let it rip from the early hours of the morning until late at night. It was a day that once again impressively underlined the sense of unity in the entire Leipzig handball family.
Big stage for the little ones
In the small and large QUARTERBACK Immobilien ARENA, the stage initially belonged to the Young handball players. The Leipzig E-youth team kicked things off at 9 a.m. with duels against Buteo Chemnitz and EHV Aue. One or two 10-year-olds were bursting with pride at being able to play a game in a hall where the best handball players in the world usually play in front of more than 4,000 spectators. More handball games followed in all age groups, until in the afternoon even the very young minis were able to show what they can do with the ball. Thanks to AOK Plus, all teams were also able to take part in a Nutritional advice undergo.
Family celebration, interesting workshops and silver autograph session
There was a lot of activity not only in the hall, but also outside the ARENA. With great weather and good music, the kids were able to have fun in the Children’s Land from Eventwerk let off steam on several bouncy castles or satisfy their need for exercise with handball darts, bungee trampoline and giant table football.
With great response, many bookers and visitors also took the opportunity to participate in various workshops free of charge, including a Speech by Bundesliga head coach Rúnar Sigtryggsson on the topic “How do you become a Bundesliga player?”
The longest queues on Handball Day were due to a very special sporting achievement. The fans were able to watch Olympic silver medal winners Luca Witzke for an autograph session and to have their photo taken with the playmaker and his precious metal. For over half an hour, the mobile phones and felt-tip pens glowed in the FANZONE.
Professionals narrowly lose to Champions League participants
After all the highlights and many program items, the day of handball was far from over. In the backstage club of the ARENA, more than 100 members of the EUROPA-CLUBS 1966 for the annual network meeting. Afterwards, the U23 of SC DHfK played a friendly match against the third division team from Aue. Immediately before kick-off, the two long-standing DHfK players Paul Bones and Jakob-Jannis Leun officially said goodbye to SC DHfK. The two 20 and 21 year old backcourt players are now under contract with EHV Aue.
At the end of the long handball day, the eagerly awaited match between SC DHfK Leipzig and the Polish champion Wisla PlockIn an intense match, the Green-Whites were close to a draw until the final seconds. Ultimately, however, the Saxons had to admit defeat with 23:24 (12:13). However, the narrow defeat did not dampen the exuberant mood at the subsequent Fanfestwhere all spectators could get autographs and a photo of the Bundesliga team.
“It is part of the philosophy of the SC DHfK to think from the base to the top and to give talented handball players the chance to develop into professionals here. In order to spread this path even further, the idea of the Handball Day was born. A day on which teams of all ages play under one roof, exchange ideas and support each other. I am pleased that this concept has worked so well and would like to express my big thanks to all the helpers, coaches, our office and the entire organization team,” says Managing Director Karsten Günther.
