The French touch in force at the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games with Air and Phoenix

Who will be the headliners on Sunday night at the Stade de France? After Celine Dion, Lady Gaga, Aya Nakamura and Gojira, the two groups are expected.

After speculations about the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, Sunday’s show at the Stade de France to close the fortnight of the Paris Games could also have its share of surprises. After the confirmation of the presence of American actor Tom Cruise, the bands Air and Phoenix will also be there.

The French Touch, so popular across the Atlantic, will ensure the handover between Paris 2024 and Los Angeles 2028. While the official website of the Olympic Games announced ” a hundred performers, acrobats, dancers and circus artists “, as well as « the participation of world-famous singers ». The Parisian announces the presence of the groups Air and Phoenix. Thomas Jolly has chosen two proud representatives of French electro pop for his show entitled Records, which will last about two hours.

The duo Jean-Benoît Dunckel and Nicolas Godin who form the group Air, have traveled the world thanks to their album Moon Safari, released in 1998. The now legendary album has sold more than two million copies worldwide, particularly in English-speaking countries. For its part, Phoenix no longer has much to prove. Popular in the United States as in France. In the early 2000s, the group toured festivals around the world and established itself as one of the representatives of the rock branch of the French Touch. Both groups were able to take advantage of the craze for French music, at a time when anything stamped “made in France” was seen as the height of chic.

On Wednesday, July 17, the two groups were already together in France for a concert celebrating the 50th anniversary of the terminal: the terrace of Terminal 1, designed by architect Paul Andreu, typical of the futuristic architecture of the early 1970s. While the two groups once again showed all their talent, the return of Daft Punk is still awaited. One thing is certain, the duo, pioneers of the French Touch, would have their place at the closing ceremony. After Celine Dion’s surprise performance from the first floor of the Eiffel Tower, nothing seems impossible for Thomas Jolly.
