Legislators also worked on weekends to reach a compromise, which was eventually approved by the Senate on Sunday evening, but also by the National Assembly after midnight.

The proposals have provoked protests and political tensions in the country.

The President Emanuels makrons and his government explains that new measures are needed to protect high-risk populations and hospitals and to avoid new arcades at a time when the number of infections is rising again.

The law stipulates that all health care workers must start vaccination by 15 September. Otherwise, they will be threatened with dismissal.

Access to restaurants, trains, planes and many public places requires a “health passport”, the law says.

It will initially apply to all adults, but from 30 September to all people over the age of 12.

To obtain a health passport, you must have proof of complete vaccination, a recent negative test result, or a recent recovery from Covid-19.

Documents in both paper and digital form will be accepted.

The number of Covid-19-related deaths in France has exceeded 111,000. Today, around 20,000 new infections are recorded every day, although there were only a few thousand this month.

Concerns about hospital congestion have reappeared.
