The French municipal green wave, a new test for Macron

The French now consider environmentalists as managers, capable of managing important cities. By leaving the big winners of the second round of the municipal elections on Sunday June 18, the green candidates, often young and unknown to the general public, become essential political interlocutors at national level in France for the executive power, often at the end of “triangular »Even« quadrangular ». The other lesson of the ballot is the massive abstention, close to 60% – a record since 1958 – both proof of the persistent fears linked to the epidemic of coronavirus and of the growing gap between the citizens and the ballot boxes, in a country crossed since 2017 by successive outbursts of anger, as shown by the episode of “yellow vests”.
