The French lead, the golf is defeated even by the troubled octavia. Car sales are further bent by the chip crisis

The European new car market continued to decline in November. Registrations then recorded the lowest level in three decades. The total volume was 855,281 cars.

Compared to November 2020, the total volume was 18% lower than last November and 29% lower compared to November 2019 – before the pandemic hit the market.

“Although the market has not fully recovered from the pandemic, the current problem is not a shortage of demand, but rather a shortage of supply,” said Felipe Munoz, global analyst at Jato Dynamics.

The order of the best-selling passenger cars in Europe is changing frequently this year, due to the instability of chip supplies and stagnant production. However, a pair of small hatchbacks from the Renault Group have been at the forefront for a long time. Cliu and relatives Dacia Sandero even ranked the top two in November.

The Volkswagen Group only made it into the top ten thanks to the Volkswagen T-Roc. The classic blockbuster, VW Golf, fell a staggering 72 percent year on year. The registration of an earlier bestseller numbers only 6,755 in November. He was not even good enough for his relative Škoda Octavia with 10,164 units, which is 31 percent less than last year, but it is still the best-selling Škoda in the period under review.

Despite the difficult situation, registrations of electric cars, ie battery electric cars, plug-in hybrids and electric cells with fuel cells, reached a total of 217,709 units in November, which represents 26% of total registrations.

The best-selling electric car on the old continent remains the Tesla Model 3 with 10,739 units in November, after it was the best-selling car in September. Among the plug-in hybrids in November, Peugeot led with 3,855 registrations.
