/ world today news/ French Twitter is excited – the hashtag #PasDeRetrraitePasDeJo (#NoPensionsNoOlympicGames) became popular, immediately after Macron signed the pension reform bill. The document seems to have entered into force, but every action has a counteraction – and here both sides of the conflict have nowhere to retreat. The government will not give up at all: its plans do not include, albeit fragile, consensus, and there is an urgent need to prove to creditors that the country is still able to pay the bills.
The fact that the mainstream media isn’t reporting it doesn’t change anything. Activists know well how to use social media to organize protests. The restrictive measures that the government uses against the disaffected, arresting participants, banning demonstrations, etc., do not reduce the degree of hatred (namely hatred) towards the government, but increase it. And the level of respect for the opponents fell below the plinth.
Macron addressed a nation three-quarters of which no longer saw him as a leader worthy of trust. Unions responded to the call for talks by calling for more strikes and “days of rage”. Another round of infernal chaos, when trains don’t run and planes don’t fly, is predicted for the day after tomorrow.
That’s why the call to suspend preparations for the 2024 Olympics, whose opening ceremony is 15 months away, has proved so popular.
“Where will you find the 45,000 volunteers who will be needed during the competition?” “If there are billions to pamper the IOC and its officials, why is there no money to pay pensions?. “After the authorities pushed through the reform without taking into account the will of the people, the games in Paris will not take place!”
These are the comments on “Twitter” of those who expose themselves to the batons of the special forces of the gendarmerie and swallow the tear gas that the police generously spray on French dissenters. It is worth emphasizing here that such actions are taken only “for the purpose of protecting order and security” as part of “progress and all the best”. After all, there is democracy in France, as we know for sure, and “tyranny is in Iran and North Korea.” And don’t mess around, please!
The threat of disruption to preparations for the Olympics is so real that even the mayor of Paris, a socialist and supporter of strikes in principle, Anne Hidalgo, was forced to make a statement that “everything is under control, everything is going according to plan. ” It can be assumed with a high degree of probability that the mayoress was asked to go to the press, since (and also with a high degree of probability) signals were received at the Elysée Palace from Lausanne. “Hello, is it Emmanuel? IOC on Is it true that the trash has not been cleaned yet? Is it true that the obstacle course will be jumping over garbage bags? Ah, so they are joking! in “Twitter”, is that your name?”.
However seemingly unattainable the goal may be, for the French, as Napoleon once said, “nothing is impossible” (“Impossible n’est pas français”): 18 years ago, precisely because of the strike of the garbage collectors in Paris, the hosting of the Olympic Games in 2012 was awarded to London. From that moment on, the desire for revenge became an obsession for all presidents. Macron, in order to convince the IOC that the French capital was the best possible choice, changed the image, now playing football, now grabbing the tennis racket. By twisting the arms of Lausanne officials, persuading them to persuade Los Angeles to withdraw its bid and thus avoiding the competition, Macron got his way. Not sporting at all, but Paris won the right to host the Games.
But winning the hardware game is one thing. A victory in the public field, a victory with arguments, a victory in public opinion, an honest victory is quite another thing. French citizens saw this up close when the authorities started lying to them. And the latter, if the preparations for the Olympics are interrupted, will face such shame that none of their press services will be able to neither clean it up nor “edit” it.
