The French army on high alert, 20,000 soldiers ready to fight

PARIS – The French army is ready to immediately engage in combat to defend the country if necessary, according to General Pierre Schill, the chief of staff of the army, in an interview with the Journal du Dimanche .

“If the situation requires it, we are ready to fight starting tonight to protect the French people and the vital interests of this country,” he told the newspaper in an interview published on Monday. (11/11/2024).

There is no doubt that the French army is ready for a high-intensity war with an equal enemy, the general said.

There is a force of 20,000 soldiers behind, some of whom are currently stationed abroad, including in Lebanon, Iraq, Estonia and Romania.

French instructors have trained Ukrainian soldiers in France and Poland.

The general said that the main objective of the army is to develop the ability to adapt to new methods of warfare.

Previously, Schill said in an opinion piece in March that the French army was ready for the “toughest” battle after French President Emmanuel Macron again suggested that Europe should send troops to Ukraine .
