(ANSA) – SULMONA, APRIL 26 – 320 people set out this morning for the 22nd edition of the path of freedom: 60 kilometers to be covered in 72 hours, starting from the city of Ovid, up to arrive at Casoli, with stops in Campo di Giove and Taranta Peligna. A route that will cross the Ford of Coccia, the highest depression of the Maiella: here the tribute will be held to Ettore De Corti, the Italian soldier killed by the Germans while trying to reach the allied troops. And then the moment of placing the plaque in the Shrine of the Maiella Brigade, in Taranta Peligna, until reaching Casoli, with a stop at the monument of Donato Ricchiuti. Timothy Kingham, son of a former English prisoner, also joined the march. “It’s nice to see these places that still smell of history” commented Kingham before the ribbon cutting which was carried out by the vice mayor of Sulmona, Sergio Berardi and the president of the Il Sentiero della Libertà association, Maria Rosaria La Morgia. “Our goal – she said – is to transmit memories and therefore build a bridge between generations”.
