The Freedom Flotilla finalizes a new trip to Gaza with humanitarian aid

The International Coalition for the Freedom Flotilla, which brings together several associations critical of the blockade on the Gaza Strip, has announced that it plans for new ships to set sail for the Palestinian territory in mid-April, despite not having permission. of the Israeli authorities, who already intercepted a similar initiative in 2010.

The assault on the ‘Mavi Marmara’ by Israeli forces then left eleven dead and, now, the Flotilla aspires to try again to try to bring 5,500 tons of aid to the Strip. According to the NGO Heading to Gaza, “hundreds of international observers” will be present.

The organization has defended this “emergency mission” in the face of a situation that is already “desperate” in Gaza, with even the risk of famine. He directly blames Israel and its “deliberate policy” of “starving the Palestinian people”, which would have worsened after the attacks carried out by Hamas on October 7.

In this sense, the coalition has warned that the maritime corridor opened from Cyprus and the launch of aid from the air are only “distractions”, taking into account that the Israeli authorities continue to limit the entry of convoys by land and fail to comply with precautionary measures. dictated by the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

They consider, however, that this help is “urgent” but “not enough.” “We must put an end to Israel’s illegal and deadly blockade, as well as Israel’s general control of Gaza,” the organizations stated in their note, in which they recall that the enclave has remained under strong restrictions since 2007, when Hamas took control of the area.

“Allowing Israel to control what and how much humanitarian aid can reach the Palestinians in Gaza is like letting the fox run the chicken coop. And yet, this is what the international community of states is allowing by refusing to sanction Israel and challenge its genocidal policies,” they lamented.
