The free Wi-Fi Piazza project increases in volume. And Perugia (like all of Umbria) becomes the catalyst for good results.
They called it Piazza Wi-Fi Italia and it has one goal: to guarantee a free connection in most Italian cities. Even in places where connecting to a network is usually complicated stuff. An initiative that started quietly but which, gradually, seems to be earning more and more points. In the near future, in fact, we could find ourselves faced with an extremely wide free connection network, able to guarantee a branched and efficient service in many areas of Italy.
The project is still under development but the trend seems to be the right one. The network is created by Tim and led by Infrate Italia. A plan that began on 23 January 2019 and which, since March 2020, has seen an important acceleration. Moreover, in the midst of the pandemic, when it was realized that connectivity and a perfectly functioning Wi-Fi are now necessary requirements. The provisional result is 5,000 free hot spots, set to increase. To access, simply download the WiFi Italia app, on Android or iOS. Login will become automatic each time you click on the icon.
Free Wi-Fi, the areas reached by the Piazza Italia project
Umbria is one of the regions that advanced with the experimentation. The digital divide had made itself felt rather intensely and, for this reason, it was decided to give the decisive acceleration here. And the results seem to go in the right direction: especially in Perugia, the places reached by the Piazza Wi-Fi Italia initiative they are now extremely numerous. In fact, in any area of the city, after applying, it is possible to connect completely free of charge, without burdening the network of your phone. After all, as had been announced, the project does not only involve large cities.

Indeed, one of the objectives was precisely to address the address towards the areas most subject to the digital divide. And here, in a city like Perugia, the project has caught on, even involving some means of public transport. At the moment, the entire historic center is among the areas most affected by free Wi-Fi, but also libraries and even some churches and museums. For example, the San Severo Chapel and the Palazzo della Penna Museum, in the bar area and internal cloister, are included in the list, but also the atrium of the Palazzo dei Priori. Also interested are the municipal offices open to the public and the Sant’Anna station. For the series, Wi-Fi never leaves us alone.
