The Franco-American Baccalaureate: A Unique Combination of American and French Education.

A. The Franco-American Baccalaureate is a binational baccalaureate, which combines the academic requirements of the courses and examinations of the Advanced Placement Program (AP), administered by the US College Board, with the widely recognized excellence of the French baccalaureate administered by the French Ministry of Education.

The FAB is currently only available in the United States and is really suitable for students who are fluent in English and French and who can successfully manage the dual requirement of the American APs and the French Baccalaureate.

In the L sector, students follow three APs:

  • AP English Language and Composition (in Grade 11)
  • AP English Literature and Composition (in Grade 12)
  • AP European or World History or United States History (in Grade 12)

In the ES stream, students follow three or four APs:

  • AP European or World History or United States History (in Grade 11)
  • AP English Literature and Composition (in Grade 12)
  • AP Microeconomics and Macroeconomics or AP Statistics

In the S stream, students follow three APs:

  • AP European or World History or United States History (in Grade 11)
  • AP English Literature and Composition (in Grade 12)
  • AP Biology or AP Calculus AB

Students who pass the Franco-American Baccalaureate have demonstrated their ability to succeed in the French curriculum and in American university-level classes: they are particularly well prepared to succeed in their studies in the best French higher education establishments and in the best universities around the world. The Lycée International de Houston is accredited (“Homologation”) by the Ministry of National Education (AEFE).
