It is the end of a decades-long adventure for the France loisirs store in Montluçon, located in rue Bretonnie. “We have customers who came for about fifty years, others for less time, who will regret the disappearance of the store,” said Karine Coudert, manager of this store which has two employees.
Only fourteen stores kept
While the France Loisirs group had been placed in liquidation on October 25, the buyer’s plan will only keep 138 out of 737 positions in the group, as well as 14 out of 122 stores.
The book club, created in 1970, has a deficit of 14 million euros, accumulated between January and the end of October alone, after a loss of 7.7 million in 2020. It is the company Financière Trésor du Patrimoine which takes over the group following the decision of the Paris Commercial Court on Monday, December 13.

The two Montluçonnaises employees, who find themselves unemployed, regret the “false information” which circulated on France Loisirs, in particular the fact that there is no paid subscription. “At one time, France loisirs was in all homes, with popular literature. We also had a specificity with lesser known authors. Guillaume Musso, for example, was discovered by France loisirs, ”says Karine Coudert.
