“The framework agreement envisages the supply of up to 100 pieces of CAS 20 vehicles, 45 pieces of CAS 30 and 87 pieces of CAS 30 syringes for large-scale firefighting, including optional fire accessories and communication devices. The vehicles will be intended for both professional units and units of volunteer firefighters,” said Tatra, which belongs to billionaire Michal Strnad’s Czechoslovak Group. The companies THT Polička and Kobit-THZ were successful in the selection procedures of the General Directorate of the Fire and Rescue Service of the Czech Republic.
Both companies will be in charge of the production of the bodywork of purpose-built superstructures and the finalization of the vehicles, while Tatra Trucks will produce the chassis as a subcontractor. In the case of CAS 20, it will be two-axle Tatra Force chassis of the latest third generation, for CAS 30 it will be three-axle Tatra Terra chassis, and for CAS 30 for large-volume firefighting, it will be three-axle Tatra Force chassis of the second generation.
“The CAS 20 tank sprayers will be equipped with a new Tatra six-seater four-door cabin with air conditioning and independent heating and with new elements for higher crew safety. The CAS 30 vehicles will receive the proven long four-door cab of the Terra series, also with a capacity of six, with similar equipment to the CAS 20. The CAS 30 high-volume sprayers will have two-door cabs with a capacity of four crew, again with air conditioning, independent heating and central locking.” said Tatra.
The fire trucks will be equipped with automatic transmissions with a hydrodynamic converter and, in addition to the special fire fighting equipment, will contain fire extinguisher tanks. “In the case of CAS 20, they will hold 4,000 liters of water and 240 liters of foam, for CAS 30 it will be 8,500 liters of water and 510 liters of foam, the capacity of CAS 30 for large-volume extinguishing will be 9,000 liters of water and 540 liters of foam. Electrical installations and fuel and air distributions on the chassis will be protected against the effects of radiant heat from fires,” the automaker said.
Tatra Trucks produces serial trucks as well as custom-made special cars. It produces cars and chassis for the civil sector as well as for use in the army or rescue services.
