The fourth opera concert Draugi – Andrejam Žagar / Diena was held

At the end of the opera music, the audience was delighted by several brilliant soloists from abroad and the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra under the leadership of the outstanding Lithuanian conductor Gintars Rinkēvičs.

Each year, the program is created by attracting outstanding soloists and conductors who have worked together with Andrejs Žagar. This autumn, the French soprano Perina Madef, who lives in Riga, performed in Cēsis (Perrine Madefou)Georgian mezzo-soprano Nino Surguladze, known as Penelope Kruus of the opera, Armenian tenor Liparits Avetisyans, highly regarded by opera critics, as well as Latvian bass Edgars Ošleja, who this year received the Latvian Grand Prix of music 2021 in the category Young artist of the year. The concert program was created by composer Arturs Maskats, who is also the head of the Andrejas Žagar Cultural Development Fund.

The Fund for the Support and Development of Culture was founded by Andrejs Žagars in 2016 and started its activity with the second joint performance by prominent director, theater and audiovisual media artist Robert Wilson and Mihail Baryshnikov A letter to a man – for guest performances at the Latvian National Opera. This was followed by a concert in Latvia by the internationally renowned singer Kristīne Opolais. With the support of the foundation, the best dancers and choreographers of Europe visited Latvia, as well as one of the most brilliant music collectives in the world: Leipzig Gewandhaus orchestra conducted by Andras Nelsons.

Since 2019, in the Vidzeme concert hall Cesi Opera concerts dedicated to Andrej are held, where the public had the opportunity to witness the performance of world-famous opera singers accompanied by the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra – Kristīne Opolais, Irēne Teorīne, Olesja Petrova, Aleksandrs Antonenko, Egils Siliņš and others performed.
