Work begins on the fourth edition of Future letter. As in past editions, and in a now consolidated relationship, the Mia association, organizer of the Quiet Festival, in partnership with the Solferino publishing house, announces the fourth edition of LetteraFutura, the national literary fellowship reserved for debuting female writers. The project continues its path thanks to the collaboration and contribution of BPER Banca.
LetteraFutura is a care project, a process of community building, a look projected at the words to come. The objective, strengthened by the editions of past years, has strengthened and accompanies debuting writers with difficulty in finding the path to publication into the publishing world. The purpose is always the same: to build over time a smoother and more inclusive path for women entering the publishing world, telling the point of view of a community.
“Our support for the Lettera Futura competition, which we have supported since the first edition – states Serena Morgagni, head of the Communication Department at BPER – is renewed for the fourth consecutive year; it is testimony to the Bank’s strong commitment to culture and the literary, in particular those projects that touch on themes such as inclusion and gender equality and which represent a concrete opportunity to enhance female talent”.
Previous editions of LetteraFutura have collected over 300 proposals isent by women of all ages and residents in the national territory and in Europe. LetteraFutura have won so far: Valeria La Rocca con The ultimate (1st edition), Ivana Librici con The water lily (2nd edition), Silvia Cavalieri con The embankment of the herbariums (III edition), which will be released in bookstores in April with Solferino and which will be presented on a national scale through a tour again curated by LetteraFutura.
The competition for this fourth edition of LetteraFutura is aimed at and reserved for unpublished novels by debuting authors written in Italian. Each author can participate by sending, no later than June 5, 2024, a novel, of any genre, theme, style, between 200,000 and 600,000 characters (including spaces).
The texts will be read and evaluated by a jury made up of 12 personalities from the Italian cultural and literary world. The jury is made up of Silvia Calderoni, Teresa Ciabatti, Paolo Fallai, Mackda Ghebremariam Tesfaù, Djarah Kan, Francesca Mancini, Elvira Muj?i?, Silvia Neonato, Barbara Piccolo, Alessandra Pigliaru, Michela Proietti, Barbara Stefanelli.
The jury is chaired by the writer and radio presenter Loredana Lipperini, who commented on his involvement as follows: “I accepted the invitation to chair the LetteraFutura Jury because I believe it is a useful project to support debut authors and enhance their talents. The definition of fellowship seems beautiful to me, difficult to translate into Italian, which refers to the idea of a group of people, who work towards a common goal, build a relationship and take care of a new voice, of a novel to come, and of its author.”
The five will be announced in September at the Festival The Time of donne and the winner will be announced in Rome in October, during the inQuiete Festival. The winning novel will be published by the Solferino publishing house by April 2025 following the signing of a publishing contract and an editing and publishing process in which the author will be supported by the professionalism of the publishing house. The editorial launch of the novel will be accompanied by a promotional tour of the author, with 8 stages of presentation of the book on the national territory, organized and curated by inQuiete Festival. The inQuiete Festival is curated by Barbara Kenny, Francesca Mancini, Barbara Piccolo and Maddalena Vianello.
