The Fourth Annual Academic Reading in Memory of Jānis Stradiņš at National Library of Latvia

The fourth academic reading named after Jānis Stradiņš will be held in the National Library of Latvia (LNB) on December 12 from 18:00 to 20:00, LETA representative Anna Muhka informed the LETA agency.

The readings will take place in the memory of the academician’s 90th anniversary and the 105th anniversary of Latvian statehood with a discussion on the topic “From Enlightenment to the State”.

Academic readings by Stradiņš, a chemist, historian of science, active participant of the Third Awakening and promoter of the revival of Selia, are organized every year.

The readings reflect the various interests of the academician and are designed in accordance with his operating principles – to present democracy and popularization of science in a way that everyone can understand, while not trivializing it.

Art historian, painter and long-time director of the Rundāle Palace Museum Imants Lancmanis, writer Māra Zālīte and theologian, writer Juris Rubenis will present the event with their lectures.

On the other hand, journalist Eduards Liniņš will lead the conversation about the role of Enlightenment as a thinking system and historical phenomenon in the formation, existence and future perspective of the Latvian nation and Latvian statehood.
