the four new features of the new school year

HAS Bergerac hospital (Dordogne)this start of the school year is marked by the implementation of the establishment project that was discussed with all stakeholders for a year. Until 2028, the structure, which is in joint management with the Belvès hospital center and the Ehpad Les Clauds de Laly in Villefranche-du-Périgord, plans to invest 20 million euros. The three ambitions of this plan consist of developing the health offer, increasing cooperation tenfold and strengthening the social and environmental approach of the different entities. But several new features have already been enacted.

1 An exit lounge to limit waiting times in the emergency room

For about ten years now, the Samuel-Pozzi hospital center has been working on a “fair duration” for patients’ stays. In particular, it has equipped itself with a list of indicators to measure the imbalance between the supply and demand for beds in the various departments. The establishment has also signed up for territorial bed management.

But since Monday, September 9, the hospital has had an additional card with a “discharge lounge.” “This allows us to anticipate discharges to free up beds as soon as possible in the departments, to streamline transport and therefore to take care of emergency patients more quickly,” explains Chantal Gourraud, the director of care. Open from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., this friendly space is run by two nursing assistants, who can offer patients a tablet or magazines. “We expect each department to free up at least one bed before 12 noon,” adds Chantal Gourraud.

2 A faster MRI at the end of October

In the coming weeks, the hospital will acquire a more efficient MRI by improving the current device. The work, costing 1.2 million euros, will be carried out from September 30 to October 27. “The examination time will decrease, so we will be able to perform more,” says Anthony Boukoucha, director of financial resources and patient care. This should reduce the waiting time, which today can be up to 40 days depending on the type of examination.”

For these three weeks without MRI, the hospital has organized with other establishments to obtain slots and will increase its pace before and after the work. Equipped with a soothing lighting atmosphere, the MRI should also save 30% of energy.

3 Emulation around young practitioners

President of the medical commission, Joëlle Fach wanted to take stock of the recruitments approved over the last three years. “We have never been so well equipped,” emphasizes the rheumatologist. Over the past three years, around twenty young doctors, most of whom completed their internship here, have chosen to stay at the Bergerac hospital.

Rheumatology, diabetology, infectious diseases, wounds and healing, and even emergency services have all received reinforcements. The laboratory and pharmacy are also experiencing this “emulation”. “They feel like they are part of a family and when they are in training, we really take care of them”, observes the doctor, who specifies that none of these recruits are from Bergerac. In addition, retired Bergerac doctors or those from Périgueux offer consultations in different specialties. “And now, they are the ones who are asking to come to Bergerac”, appreciates Joëlle Fach.

4 “Sustainable” units soon to be launched

On Thursday, September 12, the hospital will formally launch two sustainable units. The operating room and cardiology will thus engage in a sustainable development approach that will affect all aspects of daily life. On Wednesday, September 18, the hospital will participate in World Environment Day with stands in its lobby. A bike and foot relay race is also planned. Finally, on Saturday, October 19, a gospel concert will be given at Notre-Dame Church for the benefit of the maternity ward.
