The American musician who formed America with Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell after meeting them in London in the late 1960s has died in his sleep, according to his former bandmates.
“I’m so sad to hear of Dan’s passing“, reacted Dewey Bunnell in a statement published on the group’s website, recalling the”joyful moments, full of emotions and laughterwhich the three men shared.
The trio achieved worldwide success with the hit “A Horse with No Name” from their 1971 album “America”.
Dan Peek had left the group in 1977 to pursue a solo career before retiring in the 1990s.
“We created songs together that lasted and lived a life we never could have imagined.Dewey Bunnell said.While we’ve gone our separate ways, his contributions to American music have always been there and will last forever. This news is very sad“, He added.
Gerry Beckley for his part felt that “Dan and his music will live on through the great songs he shared with all of us.“.
