The founder of Amazon wants to build his own space station

“Over the past 60 years, NASA and other space agencies have developed a way to fly into and stay in space. They have paved the way for private individuals to walk this decade. We will provide all space-related services, and we will make them cheaper and easier, ”Space.com quoted Brent Sherwood, vice president of advanced software development, as quoting Space.com.

He is not alone in the project, which is to be implemented in a lower orbit around the Earth by 2030, alone. It intends to join forces with Sierra Space, Boeing, Redwire Space and Genesis Engineering Solutions, among others.

Blue Origin should develop and manufacture the station’s living quarters, including the backbone modules and the reusable New Glenn launch vehicle. Sierra Space is to be responsible for Large Integrated Flexible Environment (LIFE) modules, which are to serve as primary residential blocks, and the Dream Chaser spacecraft. It is basically a small, reusable shuttle capable of carrying cargo and, in the future, human crew. He has to land on any appropriately long runway anywhere in the world.

Boeing, in turn, is to be responsible for Orbital Reef’s operations and maintenance. In addition, he will take care of the production of Starliner scientific modules and capsules, which, like the Dream Chaser mini-space shuttle, will be able to transport the crew into space and to the space station.

The lifespan of the International Space Station (ISS) is fast coming to an end. It is currently assumed that it should expire between 2028 and 2030. The Orbital Reef project could thus replace and surpass it. It is estimated that instead of the current six astronauts, it could accommodate up to ten people.
