The foundations of future German policy are laid

Decidedly, Olaf Scholz hides his joy well. The future German Chancellor kept his Olympian calm and his cold restraint to present this Wednesday, November 24 the negotiation agreement torn off with a hard fight, after eight weeks of confidential negotiations, with his environmental (Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen) and liberal ( FDP). No outpouring of joy or a dazzling smile therefore. The very worrying health situation puts a chill on what is nevertheless a small feat in terms of German policy: for the first time, three parties with sometimes very divergent programs are drawing the broad outlines of federal policy for the next four years. “The government of the traffic light is there,” said Olaf Scholz soberly, by way of launching the festivities.
