Former wife of Amazon boss Jeff Bezos, MacKenzie Scott, crowned to be the richest woman in this world. His wealth is reportedly worth US $ 68 billion or the equivalent of Rp. 999.6 trillion (exchange rate Rp. 14,700).
Scott, who is also a writer, managed to shift L’Oréal’s heir, Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, who was previously ranked as the world’s richest woman according to the Bloomberg Billionaire index.
Launch CNN.com, Friday (4/9), in 2019 when divorced from Bezos, Scott received a quarter of her ex-husband’s share ownership. This is equivalent to 4 percent of the shares which were worth US $ 35 billion at the time.
Amazon shares have jumped about 28 percent over the past three months and are up more than 90 percent so far this year, according to data from Refinitiv. No doubt, Scott’s fortune was also raised.
Amazon’s increase in stock price automatically made Scott the richest woman in the world. His total wealth led Scott to become the 12th richest person in the world.
In July Scott announced that he had donated a portion of his nearly US $ 1.7 billion fortune to 116 organizations, including four historic black colleges and universities.
Last year, he also signed the Giving Pledge initiative founded by other “rich” men, Warren Buffett and Melinda Gates.
The initiative encourages the world’s richest people to dedicate a large part of their wealth to charitable causes.
Bezos, the world’s richest man, according to the signing list has reportedly not joined the initiative. Bezos’ wealth is reportedly worth more than US $ 200 billion, equivalent to Rp2,940 trillion (exchange rate Rp.14,700).
Meanwhile, earlier this week, Elon Musk was declared to have surpassed the wealth of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg to become the third richest person in the world. Tesla shares made a gain of 12 percent after Monday’s 5-1 Tesla split.
