The former president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Luis Rubiales denied this Monday that he received money “irregularly” after testifying before the judge investigating alleged corruption and alleged irregular contracts during his mandate. “What I maintain and will always maintain and I am convinced that justice will end up being done, is that there has never been any money that was received irregularly, there has never been any irregular bidding,” Rubiales told the press upon leaving the court in Majadahonda, near Madrid.
The former federation president added that he had acted “with the utmost excellence and in the pursuit of legality.” Rubiales, who resigned last September after the scandal of the forced kiss on international Jenni Hermoso at the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, testified this Monday before the judge investigating alleged irregular contracts during his term. Among the contracts under suspicion would be those related to the transfer of the Spanish Super Cup to Saudi Arabia or the remodeling work of the La Cartuja stadium in Seville.
«I have answered all the questions they have asked me, and if I have to return here, because your honor indicates so, I will be here, collaborating. “I am the most interested in everything being clarified,” he told the press. “We have carried out a management that is there at an economic level, that is there at a sporting level, I think it is very good, no one can doubt that,” he declared at the end of his statement in court number 4 of Majadahonda, in a brief appearance without questions.
The judge, Delia Rodrigo, has allowed Rubiales to keep his passport, but has ordered him to inform and ask the court for permission if he wants to travel outside of Spain. In addition, he will have the obligation to appear in court once a month, thus accepting the requests of the Prosecutor’s Office.
