As he had already announced in a letter addressed to the judge instructing the so-called Emmasa case, the former mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Miguel Zerolo, has availed himself of his right not to testify in relation to his management in the Council of administration of the Emmasa municipal water service company when the allegedly illegal return of the 59 million euro canon that Sacyr-Vallehermoso had paid to the City Council for the infrastructures of the water service company of the Tenerife capital was agreed. Sources close to the case have informed the SER that the former nationalist president did not even answer his own lawyer’s questions and appeared before the magistrate by videoconference from the Tenerife II Penitentiary Center. Similarly, the judge has called the former Emmasa delegate, Pablo Abril Martorell, to testify, who also declined to testify. The magistrate plans to call more officials of the consistory, including the current mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, the latter as a witness and for the month of November.
