The former mayor of Bibbiano Carletti: “Inhuman, murky climate artfully created”

They were «days, months characterized by an artfully created inhuman, turbid and nauseating climate, in which ‘being with Andrea CarlettI’ meant receiving a stigma. A climate of hatred with subversive methods, unworthy of a civilized country.” Thus, on his Facebook profile, the former mayor of Bibbiano and member of the Democratic Party, Andrea Carletti who, on Friday, was acquitted by the Court of Reggio Emilia, leaving the foster care trial in Val d’Enza.
«There are circumstances in which it is very difficult to find the right words – he wrote in a post -: since yesterday morning the faces of people continue to flash before me, of the many people who, in these five long, very long years, have never abandoned me . They have always been there, from the beginning, with a true and authentic closeness.”
These people, added Carletti, «closed me in a wonderful and tenacious collective embrace, an embrace that protected me by transmitting incredible strength. They never bowed their heads, reacting with extraordinary firmness and responsibility to insults, offenses and provocations of all kinds. A lesson of rare dignity. Without you – concludes the former mayor of Bibbiano – I would never have made it. I hug you tightly with infinite gratitude.”
Carletti had to answer for abuse of office, a recently repealed crime. In the last hearing the panel had rejected the request of the Reggio Emilia Prosecutor’s Office to raise a question of constitutional legitimacy in this regard. In 2019 he was also arrested and ended up under house arrest, as part of the ‘Angels and Demons’ investigation which caused enormous political controversy and inflamed the electoral campaign for the previous regional elections in Emilia-Romagna.
